An Introduction to Immuno-Safety Science

Immunosafety is a dynamic and interdisciplinary field that incorporates the evaluation of how new drugs, therapies, vaccines, food additives, cosmetics, and a variety of chemicals affect the immune system and to determine the relative “safety" of these entities in people, animals, and within the environment.

The primary objective of this training course is to promote a greater understanding and use of immuno-safety information in both the scientific community and society at large. The Introduction module is comprised of a collection of lightning talks (10-20 minutes) designed to introduce you to key concepts and tools that are essential to mastering foundational knowledge within this discipline. Altogether, this course will provide a comprehensive overview of the field in bite-size digestible pieces suitable for professionals who need a refresher or a quick snapshot of the immuno-safety landscape to ground them in human risk and safety assessment as it pertains to agents that may modify the immune system.

The introduction module is the first of 6 modules with multiple short presentations that range from 15-45 minutes long given by subject matter experts. Other courses will be rolled out in a continuous fashion in the month to follow.  Keep your eyes on this space!

Participants will have the flexibility to select topics based on interest and/or need and can work towards obtaining a certificate of completion. This course is intended to serve as a resource for those who are interested in learning about immuno-safety and/or looking for professional development opportunities in the form of continuing education and networking.

Target Audience

This course is intended for the science professional or graduate student looking to learn the fundamental science and key considerations that are examined in immune safety assessment. Advanced topics and courses that take a deeper dive into specific scientific areas will be offered and recommended for the more experienced scientist with a firm grasp of the information highlighted in the introduction module.

Learning Objectives

Each lecture within this module will have learning objectives specific to the topics covered. You can see a complete list of the topics covered in this module under the program tab.
